Lots of nominations, 40 donations. One cause.

With so many nominations in our Community Giving campaign, choosing just 40 nominees wasn't easy.

So many people and groups are doing so much for housing and homelessness causes in their local areas. Ultimately though, our judging panel had to make a decision and we're delighted for the 40 successful nominations. You can see the full list of successful nominees and read about our selection process on our Community Giving page.

We've been speaking to some of the successful nominees about their work in the community and how they plan to use their £1,000 Community Giving donation.

Here's what three of them had to say:

"HOPE is a small charity, set up in April 2016 to support our growing homeless community. Every week, we set up a street kitchen in Newcastle city centre to provide hot and cold food and drinks, clothes, shoes, toiletries and anything else our street friends need. We offer friendship and support throughout what must be the most traumatic and lonely time of their lives. Every week, during our Saturday night outreach, we serve up approximately 120 bowls of food and 200 drinks. We opened our charity shop in Birtley just a year ago, to sustain the work we are doing. Our community are very generous with their donations and every day a small team of us work our way through them, sorting, washing, steaming, pricing and raising much needed funds for our purchases of sleeping bags, tents and essential weatherproof gear for our street friends."

"We are currently working on a project to provide a night bus for the city, to enable our street friends to have a shower and get a safe, warm and dry night’s sleep. Your donation will be a massive help towards this project.”

Three Roses Homes Ltd

“We’re a residential care home for 14 adults with learning disabilities. We have been providing care since 1972, and some of the original residents are still with us today! Our kitchen needs updating, and we have been fundraising over the last year, so this donation has enabled us to start the work after Christmas. By having the work completed, it will mean our residents can start helping more often in the kitchen (it is unsafe at the moment due to the flooring lifting and causing a trip hazard), and will allow us to have the floor replaced and more work surfaces for preparing meals, allowing our residents to prepare and cook their own treats. We are also looking at purchasing a Rational cooker which will make cooking so much easier than our current range cooker and will also help us cater for the regular fund-raising events we hold throughout the year.”

Wycombe Homeless Connection

"Thank you so much for this, we're really grateful for this donation. I've attached a picture from our winter Night Shelter which I thought would be especially relevant given how cold it's been this winter. This year we're working closely with our local authority to ensure that no one will have to sleep rough on the streets of Wycombe this year. This donation will go towards making that a reality!"
